WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (WGHP) — An 8-year-old has died as a result of a multi-vehicle collision on Interstate 40 West in Winston-Salem, according to North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
At around 6:10 p.m on Saturday, state troopers came to Mile Marker 183 on I-40 West to investigate a fatal crash in Forsyth County.

Investigators say a 2023 Honda CR-V was driving westbound on I-40 and "failed to adequately reduce speed" before crashing into a 2018 Kia Niro. That crash started a wave of crashes from cars that had stopped in the travel lane due to the traffic ahead.
Five cars in total ended up involved in the domino effect crash, according to troopers. The Kia Niro struck a Ford Fusion which struck a Kia Soul. The Honda CR-V then struck a Volkswagen Jetta before coming to an uncontrolled rest.
Investigators say that a passenger in the Jetta, Juan Ignacio Valadez-llanes, 8, of Lexington, died as a result of his injuries on Monday.
All other passengers in the crash were treated at a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
Troopers say that impairment was not a factor in the crash and that charges are still pending.
I-40 West was shut down for around 2 hours on Saturday night as a result of the deadly crash.
