RALEIGH, N.C. (WGHP) — The outgoing lieutenant governor's campaign has agreed to pay tens of thousands of dollars to the North Carolina State Board of Elections.
According to a settlement document released by the NCSBE, the Friends of Mark Robinson committee and the board "seek to expeditiously resolve this matter through informal procedures," and reached a settlement of $35,065.52 to resolve issues that arose from campaign spending and contributions during Robinson's successful run for lieutenant governor between July 1, 2019, and Dec. 31, 2020.
"The examination found reason to believe the Committee accepted contributions and made expenditures in violation of Article 22A of Chapter 163 of the North Carolina General Statutes. Prohibited transactions are documented in the September 23, 2024, Compliance Examination Memorandum," according to the document.
The ongoing investigation into Robinson's campaign finance issue concluded in September and was just one piece of a long list of financial issues that rose to the surface while Robinson made his bid for North Carolina governor, which he lost to Democrat Josh Stein.
