DARE COUNTY, N.C. (WNCT/WGHP) — One person is being charged as a result of a deadly crash in North Carolina's Outer Banks that claimed the life of a 2-year-old child. North Carolina State Highway Patrol responded to the fatal crash on Dec. 12 around 8 a.m. According to the press release, a man was driving a 1991 Mustang east on US 64 Bypass and his car became disabled in the lane before being struck in the rear by a 2023 GMC Acadia driven by Elizabeth Moran. The Mustang then caught fire. Moran was able to get the man out of the Mustang but couldn't get the Mustang driver's 2-year-old son out of the car before it was engulfed in flames. The child was pronounced dead at the scene and his father was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. Moran was taken to a separate hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and is being charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle and failure to reduce speed.
