Former New Orleans priest receives life sentence in child sex crimes case

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The former New Orleans priest who has been on trial for child sex crimes has been sentenced.
On Dec. 3, Hecker pleaded guilty to kidnapping and raping a boy in the mid-70s.
An indictment came in 2023 on charges of first-degree rape, aggravated kidnapping, aggravated crime against nature and theft, to which he pleaded not guilty.

93-year-old Hecker appeared in court on Wednesday, Dec. 18 and was sentenced to life without the possibility of parole for aggravated rape and kidnapping.
He also received 15 years for aggravated crime against nature and 10 years for theft.
The judge has set the sentences to run concurrently.
