Warm up begins, chance of overnight fog increases
Dec 18, 2024
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- A ridge of high pressure building over California today brings stability and sunshine, with possibly clearing of this morning's low cloud cover expected throughout the first half of the day.
That leaves us with mostly sunny skies this afternoon and seasonal highs. Expect upper 50s in the valley today with more sunshine leading to more warming that means the south mountains of Tehachapi and Frazier Park will be warmer than the valley with afternoon highs in the low to mid-60s.
As that stratus deck of cloud cover is expected to clear, that sets us up with a recipe for dense fog overnight tonight into tomorrow morning.
But if the cloud cover gets stuck today or Thursday, like we saw back around Thanksgiving, then we're in store for several gray days in the valley once again, and that would keep temperatures much cooler in the 50s through the end of the work week.
Let's optimistically go with the forecast that shows clearing, and that would mean fog each morning but then sunshine each afternoon with warming temperatures to 65 in Bakersfield tomorrow and 72 on Friday.
