(The Hill) - President-elect Trump said Tuesday he would nominate former NFL player and one-time Georgia Senate candidate Herschel Walker to serve as his ambassador to the Bahamas. "Herschel has spent decades serving as an Ambassador to our Nation’s youth, our men and women in the Military, and athletes at home and abroad," Trump posted on Truth Social. GOP report recommends Liz Cheney be criminally investigated over Jan. 6 work Trump noted Walker previously served as a co-chair for the White House's Council on Sports, Fitness and Nutrition during his first term. Walker was a celebrated running back at the University of Georgia, where he won the Heisman Trophy. He went on to play in the NFL. Trump backed Walker in a 2022 Georgia Senate race to try and unseat Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-Ga.). Neither candidate received 50 percent of the vote in the general election, and Warnock defeated Walker in a runoff. Walker’s campaign, however, was plagued by controversies and false statements. Trump quipped in early November, before Election Day, that he would put Walker in charge of a new missile defense shield if elected.
