Police shoot armed man in Huntertown

HUNTERTOWN, Ind. (WOWO) – A man is dead after being shot by police in Huntertown on Tuesday afternoon.
The Allen County Sheriff’s Department responded to a home in the 2700 block of Ascension Court in Huntertown just before 2:30 p.m. A caller indicated they were armed with a gun and suffering a mental health crisis.
Officers arrived on scene and attempted to speak with the subject to de-escalate the situation. The subject exited the residence at one point, armed with a gun, then went back inside. Shortly after 3:30 p.m., the Allen County SWAT Team and the Crisis Negotiation Team were both sent to the scene.
A half hour later, the subject exited the residence again and was armed with a gun. One Allen County Sheriff’s Department Officer discharged their firearm, striking the subject. Officers on scene rendered medical aid to the subject, who was then transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The subject involved in the investigation was confirmed to be an adult male.
This incident remains under investigation.
