ALLEN COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) -- The Allen County Sheriff's Department is investigating an incident where one of its officers fatally shot a man Tuesday in a neighborhood off Carroll Road Tuesday. Officers initially responded at 2:27 p.m. to a home located 2700 block of Ascension Drive in the Lakes of Carroll Creek subdivision near Carroll and Bethel Roads on reports that a man armed with a gun was having a mental health crisis. . At 3:30 p.m. 3:30 P.M., the Allen County SWAT Team and the Allen County Crisis Negotiation Team were both paged to the scene. Attempts to deescalate the situation were unsuccessful, and the suspect -- only identified as a man -- exited the home while armed with a gun twice during the incident. The second time, an officer shot the man who was pronounced dead at a hospital after receiving medical care at the scene, according to the Allen County Sheriff's Department. The investigation is still in the preliminary stages. Indiana State Police also responded to the scene.
