ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Tuesday marked the first delivery of our 18th annual Food for Families drive! Tops truck arrives to Foodlink facility Tuesday afternoon. (WROC/Eric Schedlbauer) 35,000 lbs. of food was officially delivered Tuesday. Over 58,000 meals were provided through cash donations Friday. News 8 partners with Tops and Foodlink to help feed families in need for the holidays and beyond. More than 1 million lbs. of food have been donated throughout the years. Officials said this year they saw immediate results of the event. Food for Families: $19.5K raised so far "The beauty of this is - you get an influx of food during the holiday season, and then additional truckloads during the winter months when of course, we are expecting a large surge in inclined visits to food pantries as well. So, it's nice to get this early truckload, and expect more in the new year," said Mark Dwyer, director of marketing and communications at Foodlink. If you did not have a chance to donate on Friday but want to now, the campaign is still going strong until Dec. 24.
