MADERA COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - In Madera County, a woman was killed, and three dogs were euthanized after a dog mauling Monday afternoon.  The Madera County Sheriff's Office is not releasing the woman's name but says she was just 18 years old and visiting from Fresno.  "It is extremely, you know, horrific and tragic event, and, you know, one that no community wants to be a part of," said Madera County Sheriff Tyson Pogue. Road 417 and Quartz Mountain Road, that's where Madera County deputies found the young woman deceased.  ‘Animal control has no jurisdiction’ after deadly dog attack near Coarsegold The reporting party said they saw two Pitbull Mix dogs covered in blood, and a third nearby.  Sheriff Tyson Pogues said a neighbor came forward and explained that he takes care of the dogs.  "He specifically said they weren't necessarily his dogs, but that they stayed with him, so it's a little bit convoluted, I guess, in that matter," Pogue explained. All three dogs were contained inside his house, as police processed the scene.  When animal control arrived, to take them away, "While they were pulling one out of the house, the other two basically rushed the door and were able to escape." One dog took off, and the other rushed to personnel on the scene and had to be put down on the spot. "There was no way for us to safely take those dogs into custody, and ultimately, there was no way for us to safely do that beyond euthanizing the dogs," Pogue shared. Because one dog was still on the loose, a deputy was stationed overnight outside the home to see if the dog would return. Tuesday morning, a whole team was sent for an extensive search; they were able to locate the third dog, which was also put down. "There's no further threat to the community." Pogue said the investigation is ongoing to determine if someone will be held liable.
