ROSE HILL, Kan. (KSNW) – The Griswold house of Rose Hill is shining bright again this holiday season. This year, it's mixing tradition with some new additions, and the crowds are showing up by the carloads. KSN first introduced you to Michael Russell, the owner of the Griswold House, in 2023, and his story reached people nationwide. "Flabbergasting, I could not believe the number of people that had seen it all over the country," said Russell. He added a second fire pit and a walking-through path through the middle of the display in the front. A local company even donated a lift so he could reach the top of his trees, bringing his light bulb total to over 120,000. He says taking visitors back to their childhood was always his dream. "I've been more thrilled by watching 80-year-old people, like kids, just look up in awe," said Russell. He said his display had brought many magical moments over the years, but one sticks out: A couple decided to spend the rest of their lives together right here where we stand. It was amazing," said Hayley Helms, who got engaged at the Griswold House. A trip from Moline to Rose Hill to see the Griswold House became a lifelong memory for Brec Miller and Hayley Helms. "I grew up with 'National Lampoons' a lot; it always had a bit of a place in my heart with my family, and she loved the lights; after proposing, I'd say it means everything at this point," said Miller. This is a big honor for Russell. First female firearms instructor at the Derby Police Department "The fact that someone thought enough of my display to take a moment like that in their life and put me as a backdrop to it, it's kind of hard to explain how that makes you feel," he said. Russell hopes to continue the tradition for years, extending the holiday happiness and reaching people far beyond Rose Hill.
