Dry and mild weather continue through the week
Dec 17, 2024
It was another mild day across New Mexico as temperatures climbed above seasonal averages for many locations. Cloud coverage has been abundant across central and northern New Mexico as well. These clouds will slowly move out as we head overnight.
A backdoor cold front will be moving through eastern and central New Mexico tonight. Wind gusts will slightly pick up along the edge of the front. The front will dissipate by Wednesday morning. It will bring slightly cooler temperatures to eastern and central New Mexico Wednesday afternoon.
Later this week a ridge of high pressure will form to the southwest of New Mexico. This ridge will become prominent over New Mexico on Friday and early Saturday. The ridge will assist in warming up temperatures through the weekend. On Saturday and into Sunday, the ridge will flatten and zonal flow will return to New Mexico. Temperatures will stay warm on Sunday.
Dry air continues to be prominent over New Mexico today. This will not change as we move through the week. The cold front tonight will not be bringing in additional moisture and the ridge later this week will reenforce the dry air.
