TOWSON, Md. (WPRI) — Authorities are investigating a shooting outside a Maryland funeral home Tuesday night, according to local law enforcement.
At approximately 7:12 p.m. police were called to the area of Johnson-Fosbrink Funeral Home in Towson for reports of multiple gunshots. Upon arrival, officers reportedly found a vehicle overturned in flames.
Ten people were injured in the incident. One person was pronounced dead, while nine others were transported to a local hospital for treatment, according to Baltimore County Police Chief Robert McCullough.
Police are still determining how many victims were shot.
McCullough said the suspect was known to the victims and the shooting was "intentional and targeted toward the individuals involved."
Investigators are working to determine what caused the vehicle to crash and catch fire. McCullough said the incident appears to be isolated but acknowledged it "appears to be a mass shooting."
Gunfire also damaged the facade of the funeral home, and police are investigating additional reports of shots fired in nearby neighborhoods.
Police say the shooting appears to have no relation to the funeral home, which was seemingly closed at the time of the incident.
“We will leave no stone unturned and we will dedicate every resource to this,” McCullough said during a Tuesday night news conference.
Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact Baltimore County Police at (410) 887-4636.
This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
