PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Although Hasbro officials remain tight-lipped about their next steps regarding a potential new headquarters, Rhode Island leaders believe there is still a chance to keep the company local.
However, Gov. Dan McKee pushed back on this idea in a live interview with 12 News at 4, saying state officials have been told a decision hasn’t been made yet.

"We're in discussions, as long as we're doing that, we feel as though we have a good possibility of keeping Hasbro here and the jobs here," McKee told 12 News. "We're doing everything we can to make sure that the leadership at Hasbro knows this is the place they should be."
McKee said he plans to meet with the company’s CEO Chris Cocks after the holidays.
Meanwhile, Providence Mayor Brett Smiley, who told Target 12 he met with Cocks recently, expressed excitement about the possibility of bringing Hasbro to the capital city.
Smiley told Target 12 that he believes Providence is effectively marketing itself to the company. He pointed to a parcel of land offered by the I-195 Redevelopment District Commission.

"I think it'd be great for their employees, I think it'd be great for the company, it certainly would be great for Providence," Smiley said. "But other options are being offered, and ultimately, even if it is not in Providence, the first order for all of us should be working collaboratively to keep Hasbro in Rhode Island. That is certainly how I'm approaching this."
12 News contacted representatives from Hasbro who said they have no new updates to share regarding the potential move at this time.
