PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — The hotline for Rhode Islanders seeking information on the recent cyberattack now has extended hours. Gov. Dan McKee's office announced Tuesday that the call center will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekdays and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekends. The number is (833) 918-6603, and if a reference number is requested, it’s B137035. Information on the RIBridges data breach is also available at cyberalert.ri.gov. RIBridges is an online portal for social services like Medicaid, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), as well as the state's health insurance marketplace, HealthSource RI. Hackers gained access to that system, so anyone who's used it in the past eight years is urged to immediately take steps to protect their personal data, like freezing their credit and strengthening their passwords. State officials have warned that the hackers could release the private data of hundreds of thousands of Rhode Islanders, including their bank account and Social Security numbers. How to protect your personal data after RI cyberattack McKee's office stressed that the call center can only provide general information about the threat and the steps people can take to protect their private data. The staff won't be able to answer questions about state benefits or health care coverage. They also can't confirm if any individual's data was compromised, since the extent of the breach is still being investigated. Once that's complete, affected households will be notified by mail, according to McKee's office. The Department of Human Services (DHS) has also extended the office hours at its Providence and Pawtucket offices. All three offices will be open until 7 p.m. on Dec. 17, 18 and 19. The DHS call center can be reached at 1-855-697-4347. Deloitte hit with class action lawsuits over RIBridges cyberattack Close Thanks for signing up! Watch for us in your inbox.
