MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- The big story Tuesday night is the future of Memphis-Shelby County School Superintendent Dr. Marie Feagins.
WREG broke the news Monday that the school board would be meeting about possibly terminating Dr. Feagins' contract.
This comes after months of friction between the board and the superintendent who has been on the job for less than a year.
MSCS to discuss terminating Superintendent Feagins contract
The meeting is set to start at 5:30 p.m. and what appears to be the big question is what are the reasons the board would cite for ending Dr. Feagins' contract.
According to her contract, there are certain violations that would have to be met in order for her to not receive a payout if her contract ends early.
If the violations aren't there, then according to the contract, the payout is 18 months severance or the balance of the superintendent's contract, whichever is less.

So, in this case, it would be around $487,000. Dr. Feagins is currently making $325,000 a year.
Earlier this year, Dr. Feagins took some heat from board members after she announced job cuts at certain levels in the district as she said she wanted to get more staff "closer to the classroom."
This meeting comes after the County Commission voted last night to give tens of millions for more funding for a new high school in Frayser.

With the superintendent's job sitting on shaky ground, some commissioners had questions.
"After this gets done and yes we can congratulate and say, 'Yes Memphis Shelby County Schools you might not have a leader tomorrow.' What are we really doing," County Commissioner Edmund Ford Jr. said.
On Tuesday, school board member Michelle McKissack sent a WREG reporter the following statement ahead of the meeting:
In light of the overwhelming community support for Dr. Feagins' leadership and progress, I am asking my colleagues to delay this vote. I believe we should give Dr. Feagins the opportunity to address any concerns directly and collaboratively. This moment calls for patience and dialogue in the best interest of our students and families."
