COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO) — American voters may have voted for Donald Trump back on November 5th, but Tuesday the Electoral College met across the country to officially elect him as president. Here in South Carolina, our nine electoral votes were certified today at the statehouse by secretary of state Mark Hammond. While voters choose the president, it’s the Electoral College that actually elects the commander in chief. One of the electors shared why she supports the Republican party and Donald Trump. The elector representing Richland County had a message for any young people watching the Democratic process unfold. All of the nine electors shared their gratitude at being chosen to participate. Congress meets on January 6th to tally all the electoral votes and formally declare Donald Trump and JD Vance as the next president and vice president of America.
