BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) -- A remarkable act of kindness was caught on camera in the city of Buffalo as two young men jumped into action to put out an electrical fire in a neighbor's front yard.
The brothers, Ronald Smith and Shaine Waite, were walking to grab food from the store when they began to hear buzzing sounds coming from a nearby home.
"We heard an electrical sound, so we looked over and we saw sparks and lights popping," explained Smith. "Then we saw one big burst of flames."
Smith and Waite looked at each other and ran over to the front of the house to unplug the Christmas decorations that caused the fire.
"As we were unplugging it, we heard the Ring camera go off," said Smith. "We wanted to let them know what we were doing and that we weren't trying to harm their property."
They left the homeowner a message explaining the circumstances and let them know they unplugged the additional wires to make sure everything was safe.
The video has been seen online by nearly 4 million people in just twelve hours. People have left comments calling the young men heroes, but the brothers say they were just trying to do the right thing and spread kindness this holiday season.
"That was something minor that could've turned into something big," said Waite. "If you do something good for others, they might do something good for the next person. It might get passed on for generations. "
The brothers also expressed gratitude to every person who has reached out to them directly to thank them for their act of kindness.
WIVB News 4 also contacted the daughter of the homeowner, Tiara Miller.
In a statement, Miller said, "My family and I are very grateful for these two young men and their major act of kindness. A lot of times, young people are only shown in a negative light. I wanted to share this video to ensure these young men would get the positive public recognition and thanks that they deserve."
