Junfu Han / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images Check out your movers from the Lions’ loss to the Bills in this week’s stock report. I’m not gonna lie, as far as losses go, that was a fun one. A loss to the Buffalo Bills and the MVP-favorite in Josh Allen is a quality loss, especially under the circumstances the Detroit Lions defense is facing. Plus, it’s a good reset for the Lions, as they enter the home stretch of the season. Enough coping, though. Let’s check out your movers for the week: Stock up: Jared Goff, QB Stats: 38/59, 454 yards, 5 TD; 2 rushes, 13 yards This might have been Jared Goff’s best performance of the season, which is saying a lot considering he has set NFL records this year. Goff looked comfortable, agile, and aware in the pocket. I mentioned a couple weeks ago how noticeable it was that he was working on his mobility and keeping his eyes downfield as plays break down. That’s really translating in big moments now for the Lions offense. Several of their biggest plays were because Goff kept the play alive and found a man way downfield. A lot of the offense faltered, but Goff was razor-sharp from start to finish on Sunday and kept the Lions in the game. In my eyes, we saw two MVP candidates quarterbacking on Sunday. Stock down: Frank Ragnow, C Ragnow is one of those guys who you just know will show up and take care of business on Sunday. Unfortunately, on the days where that doesn’t happen, you’re in for a rough time. This past Sunday was one such instance, and it showed all afternoon. The top of the pocket was consistently collapsing, and when it wasn’t, there was likely laundry in the area. Ragnow got tagged for two holding penalties in the second half, which puts him at three holding calls in the last five quarters of play. On top of that, Ragnow was on the wrong end of some highlight-reel plays from the Bills, including this pancake from Bills DT Ed Oliver: Ed Oliver stole Frank Ragnow's soul on this bullrush. pic.twitter.com/gR26ckySUg— Sam Monson (@SamMonsonNFL) December 15, 2024 Stock neutral: Amon-Ra St. Brown, WR Stats: 14 rec, 193 yards, 1 TD, 1 fumble Similar to Frank Ragnow, Amon-Ra St. Brown is one of those people who prop up the entire Lions team. If he’s having a rough day, it’s gonna show. In the first half, it did show. The Lions’ mishaps included an uncharacteristic drop as well as a fumble from St. Brown. However, as St. Brown turned things around in the second half, so did the Lions. I can’t give St. Brown a stock down after coming just short of a 200-yard game and finding a connection with Goff so often in the second half to keep drives alive. It was a tale of two halves, and for that St. Brown remains neutral. Stock down: Ezekiel Turner, LB Stats: 4 tackles, 1 QB hit By no fault of his own, Ezekiel Turner was Joe Brady’s biggest victim on Sunday. The Bills OC knew very well that the Lions were hamstrung at linebacker, and he decided to attack them there from start to finish. That meant matching up Bills RB Ty Johnson onto linebackers early and often, and it was usually Turner on the other end of it. Johnson finished the day catching all five of his targets for 114(!) yards, just an absurd stat line for a running back. It was a day to forget for Turner and the rest of the linebacking corps. Stock neutral: Jake Bates, K Stats: 0/1 FG, 6/6 PAT, 0/2 onside kicks Bates had an ugly miss, characteristic of the kind he had in training camp. Not great. However, he executed two onside kicks about as well as you can ask your kicker to; the Lions just couldn’t recover. Stock down: DJ Reader, DT Stats: none Despite playing 70% of the Lions’ defensive snaps, DJ Reader had nothing to show for on the stat sheet. Some weeks that means he was plugging the interior and teams chose to run elsewhere. Sunday, it meant the opposite. The Bills ran all over the Lions defense and made their way to the second level without breaking a sweat. We can rag on the linebackers for their performances all day long, but in order for that to happen the Bills have to run past the defensive line. That starts with Reader, who is even more important now that Alim McNeill is out for the season. Quick hits Stock up Trevor Nowaske, LB: Despite not playing Sunday, we saw just how important Nowaske was. The Lions failed to set and hold an edge Sunday, a job Nowaske had quietly taken care of for several weeks now. Dan Skipper, OT: Big man touchdown! Need I say more? Tim Patrick, WR: Three touchdowns in two weeks after not catching any since 2021. Patrick is hitting his stride in this offense. Stock down Jack Campbell, LB: Campbell had held down the fort at linebacker for several weeks now, but he and every other linebacker got picked on from start to finish Sunday in both pass and run defense. It was a performance to forget. Levi Onwuzurike, DL: Onwuzurike had a quiet return from his hamstring injury. He and most of the other defensive linemen got pushed around by the Bills rushing attack, and rarely put up a fight before the Bills running backs got to the second level.
