Girl shot near Dunbar High School in Northwest DC, police say

WASHINGTON (DC News Now) -- A teenage girl was shot near a Northwest D.C. high school in the middle of the day on Tuesday, according to police.
A 17-year-old girl was shot near Dunbar High School in the 200 block of Morgan Street NW just after 3 p.m. She was taken to a hospital after fleeing to the high school for help, Ward 5 Councilmember Zachary Parker noted in a post on X.
She sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

The school was placed on alert status, delaying dismissal.

The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) was looking for a white Hyundai Elantra with Pennsylvania tags KFD1584. Investigators from the Real Time Crime Center released a photo of the suspect.
Police confirmed they believe the girl was a student of Dunbar High School. It was not known whether the suspect and the victim knew each other.
The following roads were closed as police investigated:
200 block of Morgan Street NW, between New Jersey Avenue and Kirby Street
100-200 blocks of N Street NW, between New Jersey Avenue and First Street
1200 block of Kirby Street NW, from New York Avenue to N Street (Northbound One-Way)
