WASHINGTON (DC News Now) -- A Metro police officer was taken to the hospital after he was stabbed near Gallery Place Metro station on Tuesday, according to the Metro Transit Police Department (MTPD). The department told DC News Now that at around 11:30 a.m., MTPD officers were working a bus enforcement detail at Gallery Place when they stopped a suspect for not paying the Metrobus fare. DC Circulator service ends, riders encouraged to seek alternative Metro routes During the conversation, police said the suspect refused to follow commands from officers and began to flee. When officers tried to detain him, he allegedly pulled out a knife and stabbed one of the officers in the wrist. Officers ran after the suspect, who was arrested a short time later. He was identified as 40-year-old Trenton Lorenzo Collier of Southeast D.C. He was charged with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon, Assault on a Police Officer, Failure to Pay and other related charges. The knife was also recovered. According to MTPD, the injured officer was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
