LA MESA, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) -- Police conducted an investigation at Helix Charter High School Tuesday morning after officials heard an anonymous report that a student may have had a weapon on campus. According to a statement sent to families by school administration, officials heard the report on the Student Safety Hotline and immediately contacted the La Mesa Police Department. The school went into 'secure campus' mode, and during this time, all doors were locked, blinds were shut and students were held in the classrooms with Helix staff, according to the statement. Police worked with school staff to search the campus. Both LMPD and Helix administration learned the report was unsubstantiated and the 'secure campus' status was lifted at 11:50 a.m., they said. "HCHS and LMPD take all safety concerns seriously as student and staff safety is paramount," the statement continued. "We would like to thank La Mesa PD for their quick response, communication, and efforts to keep our community safe." Officials said law enforcement will remain on campus for the rest of the school day out of an abundance of caution.
