WESTFIELD, Mass. (WWLP)-- New electric charging infrastructure at Westfield-Barnes Regional Airport will be going on-line.
The airport is partnering with Atlantic Aviation and BETA Technologies, an electricaerospace company based in Burlington, Vermont, for this latest technology. This endeavor will help to expand a national network of electric chargers installed by BETA. The company currently has chargers at 38 locations from Vermont to Florida to Arkansas and is planning 50 more for public and private use by commercial, military, and medical entities.

The BETA-designed charging stations are multimodal and interoperable, and can be used by both electric aircraft and ground vehicles. They include a Level 3 Fast-Charger located inside the fence primarily for use by electric aircraft, and a Level 2 Charger located outside the fence for use by public electric vehicles.
“One of the keys to growth is embracing new technology and making it a part of your portfolio,” said Michael McCabe, Mayor of the City of Westfield. “BETA systems is an excellent example of this by providing another avenue for aviation. We applaud their inclusion at Barnes Regional Airport.”
“We are excited to become part of the BETA/Atlantic Aviation network of electric aircraft charging stations in the New England Region and Western Massachusetts,” said Christopher Willenborg, Airport Manager of Westfield-Barnes Regional Airport. “This is another positive step forward as WestfieldBarnes Regional Airport prepares for emerging industries such as advanced air mobility aircraft.”
An unveiling of the charging stations will take place on Wednesday, December 18, 2024.
