Springfield police officers Josue Cruz, Luis Delgado, and Francisco Luna were celebrated as "Heroes Among Us" during Thursday's Boston Celtics' home game against the Detroit Pistons.
The officers were honored for their quick and life-saving actions earlier this year when they rescued a 3-month-old baby in critical medical distress. The Heroes Among Us program, established by the Boston Celtics in 1997, recognized individuals who make exceptional contributions to their community.
The life-saving event occurred in April 2024 when officers received an emergency call about an unresponsive infant. When police arrived, Officer Cruz immediately performed chest compressions while Officers Delgado and Luna provided oxygen. After more than three minutes of CPR, the infant regained consciousness and began breathing independently. The child made a full recovery thanks to the officers' coordinated efforts.

During Thursday's ceremony at TD Garden, Cruz, Delgado, and Luna were presented with the prestigious award, which highlighted their dedication to protecting and serving their community.
The Heroes Among Us program has honored countless individuals since its conception, celebrating acts of bravery and commitment that inspire communities. The tribute to Cruz, Delgado, and Luna marks another chapter in the legacy of recognizing real-life heroes at every Celtics home game.
