PITTSFIELD, Mass (WWLP) - SolaBlock, a company that creates solar-embedded exterior walls, is relaunching its business model alongside a $2 million institutional capital raise. The relaunch comes at a time of growing innovation with solar-powered construction technology. SolaBlock, which operates in Massachusetts and New York, hopes that the relaunch will continue the spread of precast solar wall systems globally and attract people to their product. Palmer residents push for downtown train station location “We are incredibly excited about this capital raise launch”, said CEO Eric Planey. “Over the last several months, we have been receiving unsolicited inbound interest in our product offerings from real estate developers, Building integrated photovoltaics (BIPV) experts, and capital providers from around the globe. Europe and Asia are ahead of North America in both precast usage and BIPV deployment, so our asset-light model that can easily be scaled globally is attractive and gaining interest.” The test wall built by SolaBlock co-founders Pat Quinlan and Jason Laverty generates more output from the summer solstice to the winter solstice, based on where the sun is on the horizon. Architect and built environment advisor Candace Shermansong said that it is important that SolaBlock has created casts that are "both functional and aesthetically pleasing". The proceeds from the company's capital raise will be used to fund an increased staff, complete research and development for new lines of products, and continue to fund SolaBlock's international growth strategies.
