Coldest air of the year awaits after near record warm day
Dec 17, 2024
It doesn’t get here for a few days, but when it does it is going to be harsh!
In the meantime, things will remain mild tomorrow after temperatures reached the 60s today.
Highs will come close to 50 on Wednesday and then the mid 40s Thursday. Both days will be mostly sunny, but there will be a quick-moving rain storm that will come through in between.
On Friday, we drop to the 30s and clouds will increase. Right now, we expect a light wintry mix to begin in the afternoon, possibly briefly changing to all snow showers Friday night.
Little to no accumulation is expected for the time being, but there is a slight possibility this storm could intensify sooner over our area before pulling out to see, so we will keep an eye on it.
Otherwise, it’s just sunshine and bitter cold air for the weekend. Highs will reach the 20s during the day with single-digit lows at night, and wind chills even colder!
Looking ahead to Christmas Eve and Day, temperatures will moderate back to seasonable averages. Outside of some flurries around, it doesn’t look like we will see a White Christmas this year.
