Wednesday a special night at Lights on Lotta

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) -- When day turns to night, the Lotta neighborhood in Sioux Falls is bright with tens of thousands of lights and dozens of festive inflatables.
"It's for the enjoyment. When we're in the house and we hear kids screaming out the windows of cars, 'There's the Grinch. There's an elf,' stuff like that, that just brings enjoyment to us," said Scott Ihnen with Lights on Lotta.
More public corruption in SD state government
Ihnen and his husband Ryan Borns are the creators of Lights on Lotta.
During the holiday display, the couple also collects donations for organizations that benefit our country's heroes, including Big Paws Canine Foundation.
The nonprofit provides service dogs to veterans and former first responders.
But this year at Lights on Lotta, traffic and donations are down.
"We try to compare year by year and whatever, and it seems down from years before," Borns said.
But you can help boost donations during the Military and First Responders Night happening Wednesday evening.
First responders and more special guests will join the fun.
"We have a whole bunch of Christmas characters handing out candy canes, taking donations. We'll have veterans that are here that will also help," Ihnen said.
It's a night to get into the Christmas spirit for a cause.
Hot chocolate packets and glow sticks will also be handed out.
The fun starts Wednesday night at 5:30 p.m. and runs until about 8 p.m.
First responders are expected to arrive around 6 p.m.
