Man arrested for allegedly beating elderly man, leaving him for dead

MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- A man is in police custody after they say his robbery and brutal beating of a 77-year-old man led to his death.
Napatrayan Jones, 27, was arrested on Monday and charged with aggravated assault, which resulted in Eddie Bond's death.

On November 26, 2024, at 2:45 p.m., officers responded to a fight call at Union Avenue and Cleveland Street.
Officers were able to locate a 77-year-old male victim but he refused treatment at that time.
At 4:03 p.m., officers were called to 1003 Union Avenue regarding the same male victim. At that time, he was taken to Regional One in critical condition.
On December 8, the victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.
The victim was later identified by his family as Eddie Bond.

Officers were told that the victim was assaulted in the 1300 block of Union Avenue. Investigators canvassed the area and found video of the assault.
The suspect was a male with facial tattoos wearing a white muscle shirt and bright red pants.
An officer with previous experience with the man recognized him as Napatryan Jones.
On December 16, an officer located Jones and arrested him.
Memphis Police say this investigation remains ongoing and Jones' charges may be amended.
Jones' bond has not been set at this time.
Jones has a long criminal record, according to Shelby County court records, including a September arrest for assault on a first responder.
