This comes after some local meetings in the past two weeks that have raised concerns from landowners about property values, increased traffic and a potential fire risk. Both the Lincoln and Nebraska Chambers of Commerce support the project and Lincoln Chamber president Jason Ball told Lincoln’s Morning News on KFOR  Tuesday, the State Chamber Foundation had research done and found that energy and population growth are key. “This isn’t a green energy agenda.  This is a really ‘we need electrons from somewhere’ agenda to keep the lights on,” Ball said. Ball added that if Nebraska is going to meet its goals for economic and population growth, diversify the tax base, the energy is going to have to come from somewhere.  The support from both chambers, though, would be on the basis of private landowners that have reached agreements with NextEra. “They would like to see this happen.  They have determined that’s in their best interest and would like to see that happen on their property, and those property rights mean something,” Ball said. If the proposed NextEra Energy solar farm is recommended by the Planning Commission and ultimately approved by the Lancaster County Board, construction would start as early as December 2026.
