COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
The Food Bank for Central and Northeast Missouri has is working to become a one-stop shop for community members who are food insecure with The Food Bank Market.
Katie Atkins, a spokesperson for The Food Bank, said that these special programs have seen expansion in the past year.
“The Food Bank Market has grown exponentially in the last year,” Adkins said. “We have primarily food-related programs, but we also have some programs that are really exciting, that bring together community resources for folks in need.”
Currently, The Food Bank Market offers four special programs:
Senior boxes
Share packs
ProjectDash
VIP veteran boxes
Senior Boxes are available to those age 60 or older with a limited income. The boxes are provided each month and applications are available at the Food Bank Market. Proof of residence and a driver's license or birth certificate are required.
Share Packs are bags that supply nutrition for one or two days. They are specially designed for members of the community who are homeless.
ProjectDash is a service provided by The Food Bank and DoorDash. Those who are age 60 or older, have limited mobility, or who live within 10 miles of the Food Bank may be eligible to get food delivered to their doorstep.
VIP Veteran Packs are monthly boxes that are made up of nutritious food and toiletries.
Another resource that The Food Bank Market offers is resource navigation, where health services, resume-builders and job information are available to the community.
The Food Bank Director Chelsea Tatlow, spoke more about what Resource Navigation offers.
“Our resource navigator does a great job of balancing individual resource referrals with neighbors who are trying to get connected with services in the community to meet their basic needs, as well as inviting those partners to do outreach on our shopping floor while folks are shopping," Food Bank Director Chelsea Tatlow said. "We have Compass on site and they offer walk-in primary and preventative health services. We've also partnered with their dental mobile unit. to bring dental services here on site to neighbors.”
