Family restaurant in Noblesville closing after 60 years
Dec 17, 2024
NOBLESVILLE, Ind. - One of Noblesville's oldest restaurants is closing its doors.
Jim Dandy Family Restaurant has welcomed customers for hot meals and friendly company since the 1960s.
“I was here when they opened in 1964,” said Bob Armstrong, a lifelong Jim Dandy customer.
Armstrong has been coming here for as long as he can remember. It's the place he has met some of his best friends.
How long have you known these guys?
“Seems like all my life,” he said. “But not that long, 10 years maybe.”
But now Armstrong and his friends will have to find a new place to go after a decision was made to close the original Jim Dandy location in Noblesville.
How often do you come?
“8 times a week at least,” said Gary Jackson, one of Jim Dandy’s regular customers.
What are you going to do now?
“I don't know, "Jackson said. “I don't know really… We [my friends] will try to figure something out. We have talked about it. Time rolls on.”
Jim Dandy first opened its doors in 1964 and has opened up a few locations across central Indiana since then but after Jan. 1, 2025, only one location in Tipton will be left.
“We were shocked honestly,” said Cindy Faulstich, the general manager at Jim Dandy in Noblesville. “We all broke down… I have customers who are tearing up too. This is really going to be hard. The last day we are going to be a mess. Everyone is going to be very emotional that day."
And although some people saw the closure coming eventually, it's still been a very tough decision to process.
“The guys did tell us a couple of years ago they were going to be retiring,” Faulstich said. “None of their children wanted the business.”
Over the last several decades… Jim Dandy has become a staple in this community.
“Right now the regulars are like, 'We don't know what we are going to do. ‘We don't know where we are going to go.’ ‘There is just nothing like this,” Faulstich said.
“This is the first one, and this place is iconic in its own sense,” Jackson said. “There was history here for 60 years.”
Customers said the Jim Dandy motto will always live on, ‘Good Food. Good Friends. Good Times.’ And now they can add, ‘Good Memories.’
“It will be missed but life goes on,” Armstrong said. “You can't get upset with things in life you can't change.”
A sign was left at the front door of the popular restaurant informing customers that the property had been sold. The complete statement can be read below:
Dear Guest of Noblesville Jim Dandy Restaurant,
Jim Dandy Restaurant of Noblesville was opened in 1964 by our father, Harry E. Reasner, Jr. It enjoyed ongoing success over the years and became a prime place where friends met in the small town of Noblesville, through emphasis on good food and good service.
We have greatly enjoyed and appreciated the ongoing patronage of many local individuals and families over these sixty years, as well as visits by newer area residents and visitors.
The employment of many hard-working, dedicated, and loyal local students and adults has been a great asset that Jim Dandy has enjoyed in its success through the years. The developed friendships among staff members and customers has certainly been a big plus in the longevity of the business.
Unfortunately, while two generations of Reasners have enjoyed Jim Dandy of Noblesville business, there is not another generation that can continue it and the property has been sold. The last day of business for Jim Dandy of Noblesville will be January 1, 2025.
Again, we thank you for your patronage. We certainly (wish) you all the best for the future.
Sincerely,
Dave and Brent Reasner
Again, the last day to enjoy a meal at the Jim Dandy in Noblesville is Wednesday, Jan. 1. The location in Tipton will remain open.
