Convicted murderer on the run worries Alamance County victim's family; 'He's a threat to the public'

BURLINGTON, N.C. (WGHP) -- Burlington police are still looking for a convicted murderer who skipped out midway through his own trial.
Litego Marshall was convicted of killing Leonidas Brown. Now Brown’s family is sharing their heartbreak over this entire ordeal.
“I honestly feel like he’s a threat to the public,” Brown's cousin Nathan Williams said.
In 2018, investigators charged Marshall with the murder of Brown.
“Hearing the details of the case ... answered a lot of questions that just kind of have been lingering,” Brown's cousin Horace Flannigan said.
Brown's family finally thought they would get the answers they deserved. Some of them traveled from their home state of Virginia to attend Marshall's trial.
The trial continued even though Marshall took off, but Brown's family felt the proceedings were overshadowed by his escape.
“There’s no guarantee he will stay in North Carolina. There’s no telling what he knows and who he knows, and that’s probably one of the scariest things,” Williams said.
In Marshall's absence, he was still found guilty of murder and robbery.
It's the verdict Brown's family wanted, but the circumstances have left them feeling more disappointed and fearful than ever.
“He's had seven years to just walk around free and think about how he wanted to do this ... Anyone with a first-degree murder charge over their head that doesn't have an ankle monitor attached ... and incarcerated is gonna run. For me, I want to be thrilled that he’s charged and convicted ... It’s harder because he’s not incarcerated,” Flannigan said.
Brown’s mother Connie Washington says she won't feel at peace until her son's killer is behind bars.
“I want him to be off the streets so he can’t do this to anyone else," Washington said.
As they wait for Marshall's arrest, they hold onto Brown's memory and let his legacy live on through the songs he wrote while also honoring his favorite holiday.
“I get him a Christmas gift every year,” Washington said.
Burlington police describe Marshall as 5 foot 10 inches with multiple tattoos on his arms and chest, including the word “tego” tattooed on his chest.
He was last seen Monday in a silver Mercedes Benz near Graham.
