(WFRV) — The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay men's basketball coach, Doug Gottlieb, found himself in the social media spotlight Monday evening after a heated exchange with ESPN Senior NFL Insider Adam Schefter. The dispute began when Schefter reported that Sacramento State is considering hiring former Pro-Bowl quarterback Mike Vick as its head football coach, citing plans to move up to the FBS, build a new stadium, and an impressive $50 million in NIL funds. NBA Cup final: It’s the Bucks and Thunder in Las Vegas for the title Gottlieb quickly questioned the NIL claim, tweeting, "Jeezus Shefty, edit what agents tell you... 0.0% chance Sac State has $50m in NIL." Schefter fired back, explaining, "The SAC-12 leading the schools NIL efforts already announced it has reached its initial goal of raising $50 million in NIL funds to strengthen the school's case for an invitation to the PAC-12 or Mountain West conference." Gottlieb, unconvinced, replied, "Have to raise money for a stadium, coaches, and then NIL. Saying it is $50m in NIL is disingenuous." The feud reached its peak when Schefter took a personal jab, tweeting, "And Jeezus, Doug. A seven-game losing streak and last place in the Horizon League? Less time on social media and more time in the gym," along with a screenshot of the league standings showing the Phoenix at 2-10. The fiery exchange quickly went viral, with fans from both sides weighing in on the unexpected beef. Gottlieb’s first season with the Phoenix has been challenging, following the departure of Sundance Wicks, who led Green Bay to a remarkable turnaround last year before leaving for his dream job at Wyoming.
