ALLEN COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) -- The Allen County Sheriff's Department is investigating a fatal officer-involved shooting in a neighborhood off Carroll Road Tuesday. A heavy police presence was spotted in a neighborhood called The Lakes of Carroll Creek, which is stationed on the northeast corner of Carroll and Bethel roads. Officers initially responded to a home in the neighborhood on reports of someone having a mental health crisis. Attempts to deescalate the situation were unsuccessful, and the suspect -- only identified as a man -- exited the home while armed with a gun. An officer shot the man, and the man died despite receiving medical care at the scene. The investigation is still in the preliminary stages.
