HUNTINGTON COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) -- A man found guilty of neglect in the death of an 8-year-old in 2022 received a prison sentence of nearly four decades Tuesday. Matthew Dirig received a 40-year prison sentence with two years being suspended and 26 days of jail credit, according to court records. Huntington man found guilty in death of 8-year-old locked in room In November, a jury found Dirig guilty of neglect of a dependent resulting in death. The 8-year-old boy had been found locked in a bedroom with a zip tie around his neck, according to court documents in the case. Based on video evidence from the scene, investigators estimated the child had been locked inside the room for roughly two hours. Dirig was also ordered to pay $389 in fines and court costs, according to a sentencing order.
