(PUEBLO, Colo.) — Troopers in Pueblo teamed up with the Colorado State Patrol statewide DUI team to deter impaired driving throughout the weekend of Friday, Dec. 13 through Sunday morning, Dec. 15. During the three days, troopers contacted 98 drivers, conducted voluntary roadside maneuvers with 10, and made three DUI arrests. One person who was arrested had a previous DUIs. "High visibility campaigns like the one conducted last weekend, continue to make a difference in the community," said Col. Matthew C. Packard, chief of the Colorado State Patrol. "Whether hearing about an increase of troopers encourages folks to drive sober or troopers making contact with those folks driving in an unlawful manner, the roadways are safer for everyone." Since 2020, Pueblo has experienced 78 fatalities in crashes and 231 crashes where occupants sustained serious injuries. Most of these incidents occurred on a Friday or Saturday evening and the leading factors for these were lane violations involving distracted driving and impaired driving.
