MOORESVILLE, N.C. – The Iredell Co. Sheriff’s Office says a woman who worked cleaning homes has been arrested and charged with stealing jewelry from a client’s home.
Jackeline Sorayda Zamora-Sequeira is charged with felony larceny. Deputies recieved a call about stolen jewelry on Thursday, December 12, 2024. Deputies say they went to Zamora-Sequeira’s home on East Wilson Avenue in Mooresville where they found her in possession of two stolen pieces of jewelry. They say 30-year-old Zamora-Sequeira admitted to stealing the items while cleaning the victim’s home in early August 2024. The jewelry is valued at $17,449.
She was placed under arrest and taken to the Iredell County Detention Center and issued a $15,000 secured bond.
Under North Carolina General Statute 162-62(b1), which went into effect on December 1, 2024, deputies are required to verify a person’s legal presence in the United States when they charged with a felony or impaired driving offense and detained in a county jail for more than 24 hours. Deputies say during that verification process, they learned that Zamora-Sequeira is an undocumented immigrant from Nicaragua.
The Iredell County Sheriff’s Office says that in compliance with the law, it has submitted documentation to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to verify Zamora-Sequeira’s legal status. The Sheriff’s Office says it is waiting for further guidance and confirmation from ICE.
