WALTERBORO, S.C. (WCBD) – Three dogs were rescued from a Sunday morning house fire in Walterboro. A fourth did not survive. A postal worker was delivering packages on Gadsden Loop when they saw smoke coming from the roof and windows of a single-story home and called law enforcement. Crews with Colleton County Fire-Rescue arrived within minutes. They forced open the front door and found the kitchen on fire. CCFR While searching the home for anyone inside, firefighter-paramedics found three unconscious dogs. All three were brought to the front yard and given resuscitation efforts through Fido Bags, which are carried on all Colleton County Fire-Rescue ambulances. Officials said two of the animals responded to the treatment and eventually regained consciousness. Another dog did not survive. The small dog did not appear to have suffered any ill effects from the fire,” officials said. “All of the dogs were turned over to Animal Services officers.” Firefighters said the fire was contained to the kitchen area and attic space above the kitchen; however, the home suffered heat and smoke damage. Officials said the fire started on the stove and noted that no one was home when the fire began.
