Hoeven introduces legislation to block Natural Gas Tax
Dec 17, 2024
NORTH DAKOTA (KXNET) — Senator John Hoeven (R-N.D.) and Congressman August Pfluger (R-Texas) have introduced legislation to try and block the Biden administration's Natural Gas Tax.
The bicameral Congressional Review Act (CRA) resolution of disapproval would try to block the tax, which was passed as part of the Inflation Reduction Act in 2022. Hoeven argues that removing this tax would bring down prices for U.S. consumers.
“American households and businesses depend every day on access to affordable and reliable energy,” said Senator Hoeven, a member of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee. “The best way to bring down prices for U.S. consumers is to increase supply. That’s why we’re working to rescind policies like the Natural Gas Tax, among the many other costly and burdensome taxes and regulations imposed under the Biden administration. Doing so will help unleash our domestic energy production and make our nation energy dominant once again.”

This legislation is part of Hoeven’s efforts to rescind many taxes and regulations imposed by President Biden, which according to the senator have increased costs for consumers and hampered domestic U.S. energy production. Hoeven and his colleagues say they will work in the new Congress and under the Trump administration to repeal federal rules in order to accomplish the following goals:
Improve access to taxpayer-owned energy resources.
Streamline the approval process for energy development and the construction of infrastructure needed to get energy to market.
Reduce the cost of production, fight inflation, and bring down prices for American consumers.
The Hoeven-Pfluger bill is cosponsored by Senators Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), Mike Lee (R-Utah), James Lankford (R-Okla.), Katie Britt (R-Ala.), Steve Daines (R-Mont.), Roger Marshall (R-Kan.), Kevin Cramer (R-N.D.), Cynthia Lummis (R-Wyo.), James Risch (R-Idaho) and Rick Scott (R-Fla.) in the U.S. Senate and Congressman Jodey Arrington (R-Texas) in the House of Representatives.
