EBR Mayor-President-elect Sid Edwards on next steps after upset election win Edwards emphasized the importance of collaboration and early preparation in his remarks: “I am honored to announce a strong, talented team of local leaders who will assist me in transitioning our parish’s government over the coming days and months. As an experienced team-builder, I know how important it is to recruit talented individuals very early on so we can maximize our outcomes and win for our parish.” Edwards’ decisive victory in the December runoff marked a turning point for Baton Rouge, as the Republican challenger unseated incumbent Democrat Sharon Weston Broome. Edwards now faces the challenge of delivering on campaign promises, which centered on uniting the parish and addressing issues like public safety, economic development, and infrastructure improvements. With early voting participation and overall voter turnout reflecting a significant drop from the primary election, the transition period is seen as a crucial chance for Edwards to connect with more voters and set the tone for his leadership. Edwards will formally assume office during an inauguration ceremony on January 2, 2025.
