BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- Christmas is eight days away and Centennial Elementary School's student council woke up bright and early to spread the Christmas spirit to those in need. The student council hosted a toy drive at Centennial Elementary throughout the month to make sure children across Kern County receive a gift this holiday season. Students, along with their parents, delivered over 200 toys to the KGET lobby during 17 News at Sunrise Tuesday morning. The group says giving back to the community is the true meaning of the Christmas season. More than 30 children removed from their homes wait for the Wishmas Tree The donations will benefit children between the ages of 5 and 18 at the Open Door Network and the Boys and Girls Club of Kern County. Today is the final day to drop off toys and hygiene products to the KGET studio lobby, at 2120 L St. in downtown Bakersfield. You can drop off donations during regular business hours, which are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Can't make it downtown? Donations can also be made at any Boys & Girls Clubhouse: 801 Niles St., Bakersfield 5207 Young St. Suite 200, Bakersfield 8301 Segrue Road, Lamont Temblor Brewing Company is also accepting donations — 3200 Buck Owens Boulevard, Suite 200 Bakersfield.
