'IgniteHer' seeking volunteer presenters for inaugural STEM conference for girls

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- A new conference designed to spark girls' interest in various STEM career paths is scheduled for spring 2025 at Bakersfield College and organizers are seeking the help of the community to make it happen.
"Ignite Her: Empowering Girls to Shape Their Futures through STEM" is a one day conference scheduled for April 5, 2025 that aims to boost girls confidence and self-esteem by providing opportunities to meet women working in the field, according to STEM program specialist Holli Gonzalez.

STEM jobs are highly sought after in Kern County. In fact, the Golden Empire ranks 4th in the U.S. for STEM jobs thanks to the prevalence of energy, agriculture, aerospace, defense, healthcare, and logistics industries, the Kern Economic Development Foundation reported.
Despite growth in women in STEM fields, there's still a pretty large discrepancy, Chelsey Lancaster with the Kern County Super Intendant of School's said.
