How to help keep Austinites' lights on this holiday season
Dec 17, 2024
AUSTIN (KXAN) -- Those looking to give back this holiday season can help keep Austinites' lights on and energy running.
The city of Austin's Gift of Comfort program allows people, businesses and organizations to help pay for a customer's utility bill when that individual might be struggling to cover those expenses. Those interested can pay for any and all amounts of the customer's bill via a check or money order.
The customer's name and address are needed to participate in the Gift of Comfort program. After downloading and filling out the payment form, that payment can be sent to one of Austin's utility customer service centers or mailed to:
City of Austin Utilities - Payment ProcessingP.O. Box 2267Austin, TX 78783-2267
"Our number of givers last year struggled to reach double digits, so we’re hoping to get the program more publicity," an Austin Energy spokesperson told KXAN. "The easiest way to participate is to visit one of our Utility Customer Service Centers, perhaps when you’re out Christmas shopping. Our UCSC staff is happy to help."
Contributions can be made anonymously, or a printed Gift of Comfort gift card can be given to the recipient.
Other opportunities include the City of Austin Utilities' Customer Assistance Program, which assists customers unable to pay their utility bills "due to unexpected emergencies," per Austin Energy.
