FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – Two people lost their lives in a crash and a one-year-old girl was transported to Valley Children’s Hospital late Monday night in Merced County, according to the California Highway Patrol. CHP says officers observed a crash around 11:52 p.m. on westbound Highway 152 at Turner Island Road. Investigators say a 2015 Kia was going southbound on Turner Island Road, north of Highway 152. A 2015 Freightliner truck and tractor-trailer combination was traveling westbound on Highway 152, east of Turner Island Road. CHP says, for an unknown reason, the driver of the Kia failed to stop at the posted stop sign on southbound Turner Island Road at Highway 152 and drove into the path of the Freightliner.  CHP said the front of the Freightliner crashed with the left side of the Kia. The driver and the right front passenger of the Kia died at the scene. An additional occupant of the Kia, a one-year-old girl, was transported to Valley Children’s Hospital as a precaution.  The driver of the Freightliner was uninjured.
