Massachusetts man serving over 7 years in prison ordered to pay funeral expenses for fentanyl overdose death

WAREHAM, Mass. (WWLP) - A man was sentenced to prison and ordered to pay for funeral expenses in connection with selling fentanyl that resulted in a deadly overdose.
In a news release from the Department of Justice, from January 2019 through at least April 3, 2019, 40-year-old Troy Jones and his co-conspirator, 33-year-old Kayla Nightingale worked together to distribute fentanyl in Wareham.

An investigation revealed that they sold fentanyl to a 42-year-old Wareham resident who died of a fentanyl overdose on April 2, 2019. Jones and Nightingale were arrested in October 2020 in connection with his death.
Jones pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute fentanyl resulting in death and distributing fentanyl resulting in death. Last week, he was sentenced to 92 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release, and ordered to pay $7,868 in restitution to the family of the victim for funeral expenses.
Nightingale pleaded guilty and is scheduled to be sentenced on Jan. 8, 2025.
