Alleged drunk driver injures Massachusetts State trooper after rearending cruiser

BOSTON (WWLP) - A Massachusetts State Police trooper was taken to the hospital after an alleged drunk driver rear-ended their cruiser on Monday.

The Massachusetts State Police said that around 11:00 p.m. on Monday, a 2013 Acura SUV was driving on Storrow Drive East near Kenmore Square when it rear-ended a State Police Cruiser. Significant damage was done to both vehicles, and the Trooper was taken to a local hospital for their injuries.
The driver, who has been identified as 32-year-old Melvin Lopez of Chelsea, was arrested and taken to the Boston Barracks for several charges, including operating under the influence (alcohol).
Lopez is expected to be arraigned Monday morning.
