Albuquerque City Council passes new protections for mobile home residents

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Residents of manufactured home communities in Albuquerque will now have more protections, following a vote at Monday night's city council meeting. City councilors have voted to pass the "Stability and Empowerment" ordinance for manufactured home communities. Councilor Nicole Rogers introduced the resolution earlier this year, saying many residents of those communities own the homes they live in but do not own the land and pay a "lot rent" to the landowner.

Rogers said when those landowners decide to sell, residents are left with no say in the process and little to no housing security. Now, under the new policy, a landowner selling their lot must give residents advance notice, allow residents to submit an offer to purchase the land themselves and maintain clear, good faith communication with the community during the selling, leasing, or transferal process.
