NORTH ATTLEBORO, Mass. (WLNE) — A woman was injured in a mobile home fire this morning in North Attleboro.
Officials said the call came in originally around 6:42 a.m. from a medical alert company reporting a medical alarm activation from a home at 35 Woodchip Square.
Within minutes of receiving this call, North Attleboro Fire also received several calls from neighbors reporting a structure fire at 35 Woodchip Square.
Upon arrival, firefighters discovered heavy fire originating from the side of a mobile home.
Officials safely entered the home and located a female resident inside the doorway who was escorted out of the house.
The resident was transported to Sturdy Memorial Hospital for further medical aid.
No other injuries were reported.
Fire Chief Chris Coleman said the fire hydrants in the area are privately maintained and were not initially operational.
Several caps were closed shut and unable to be removed at first, delaying the water supply, according to the chief.
Companies quickly stretched several hundred feet of hose line from a nearby hydrant on Plain Street.
Plainville, Foxboro, Attleboro and Mansfield provided mutual aid at the scene. Providence Canteen and Mansfield Emergency Management Agency also responded to the scene to provide rehab.
The Mansfield, Norton and Cumberland, Rhode Island fire departments provided station coverage.
The mobile home sustained significant water, fire, and smoke damage.
The house has been deemed a total loss.
The American Red Cross is assisting the displaced resident.
The cause of the fire does not appear to be suspicious; however, the fire remains under investigation.
