Upper Darby union workers vote to authorize strike as contract nears expiration

Upper Darby municipal workers represented by Transport Workers Union Local 234 voted unanimously to authorize a strike. Their current contract expires Dec. 31. The union says the township proposed a contract that would reduce the workforce and triple health care costs for workers. Township officials deny an intention to reduce the workforce.
