OKC Community Foundation surpasses $1 million in grants feeding older adults
Dec 17, 2024
OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) - Oklahoma City Community Foundation and it partners are celebrating a huge milestone in grants providing meals for older adults.
According to Feeding America, more than 672,000 people in Oklahoma are food insecure. In that group, sadly, 224,000 or 1 in 4 are children.
“Mobile meals are wonderful. We provide warm meals, caring conversation and a personal connection for people who can’t leave their homes,” said Gwen Wallace, Mobile Meals Director for St. Luke Baptist Church in Spencer. “We are so honored to partner with the Foundation to provide this important service to members of our community.”
The Foundation alongside generous donors say, grants totaling $175,450 have been awarded to 54 mobile meal partners in central Oklahoma for the 2024 grant cycle. Since 2008, Foundation leaders say it has handed out $1,026,600 to mobile meal programs in central Oklahoma.

The mobile meals partners under the banner of Oklahoma City community Foundation provide nutritional support to older adults, regardless of income, who cannot leave their homes without assistance or prepare meals themselves.
“The mobile meal program is vital for older adults who want to enjoy independence and live longer, healthier lives in their homes,” said Trisha Finnegan, OCCF President and CEO. “By working together with generous donors and these outstanding partners, we are making a meaningful difference for people who need food, a caring smile and encouragement in their daily lives.”
